a new project. there isn't anything here that isn't possible. i'll spare no expense (in speed) making this beauty. some of it is complete already. i'm building it from nothing piece by piece so it should be flawless in about a week. i'm working my gtk muscle so when i finally move to gtk3 i'll be able to take full advantage of it ;)

Then get it.
Dual-boot if you're not ready to get rid of your other OS yet.
It's not like it costs money or is difficult or anything, what's stopping you?

What should I use to dual boot?
Reply
:icontherealpadster:
theRealPadster Featured By Owner May 16, 2011  Hobbyist Interface Designer
Well, if you install the Linux distro as a dual-boot.
Many distros support this in the installer, and if they don't, you could make another partition on your hard drive and install it there.

What should I use? Ubuntu?

:icontherealpadster:

Well, I would have once recommended Ubuntu, but lately I don't really like their direction. The whole Unity interface and some other things are pretty bad in my opinion. I would now recommend Linux Mint to new users, as it's based on Ubuntu, so any tutorials or anything should probably work, but it is keeping more sane, if you know what I mean.

it's quite good.
you're fixing some of elementary's flaws in design, like tabs and scroll bars (to my understanding, that is), although I prefer dan's new maximize button, leaving only the simpler close button on the left.

another thing is the higlight you gave the title bar, I think its a little to white, maybe it would look better with a little less 3d look, like the buttons or the selected tab. just an suggestion.

i really like the elementary scrollbar because it suggests a touch screen interface, and nothing really beats capacitive touch scrolling.. but it is very slow on a mouse system

thats it, I don't use a touch screen yet, so I really prefer scrollbars for which you don't have to be aiming for 10 seconds like in elementary right now. they look great, but they lack usability with a mouse.

Wow, beautiful mockup! I really appreciate the fact that you're making a theme from scratch, it seems a very uncommon thing nowadays, and it gives it a completely distinct appearance from any other theme. I can't wait for the result!

=) i basically always do my mock ups from scratch with multiple inspirations.. but in the past i've kinda ghetto rigged together the gtk lol this time i'm breaking it down and building it widget by widget so i can get a better understanding of how everything works, and make a better theme.
