i've been patiently waiting for someone to do a rainmeter that's so good it's practically a shell replacement, but i still haven't see it. and docks for windows are terrible. why do i want a pretty shortcuts bar? if it's not for managing tasks it's not for anything
that's actually a rainmeter skin. i used customize notifications to hide the windows clock, then centered up a rainmeter widget. in the msstyle i used negative content margins to hide the content of taskbuttons, and use transparent images for the buttons themselves
About the Rainmeter, its not that hard to make it yourself. You can even create something similar to windows taskbar. You just need to have time and thats something none of us have
very true. i think i'll take this summer to learn to use it proper. the one thing about the windows shell that is irreplaceable is the notification icons (system tray). nexus dock, after a lot of work, is a pretty decent taskbar/startmenu alternative, but i've gotta have a functional tray.
You gotta have tray... I couldnt manage my system without it honestly.. Sys monitorings are easy to both use and edit. But they have limitations. There is no way you can create a normal taskbar with startbutton in windows to replace the original one. You can ony get something similar. But the result is still solid.
i just found all these awesome tools that, among other things, allow you to show the startmenu or tray by clicking a meter i've got my set up pretty much to the point that i no longer need that taskbar
